Ok, so some of you may think I am nuts and I probably am but I figured I would throw this out there for your thoughts, lol.

There are people out there that are looking at converting a bus into a skoolie that don't have a place to do it. They may have the means or ability to do such a project but their current living situation is prohibitive to doing so.

I have been thinking a lot lately about land, skoolies and such. I would love to find some land, possibly an old campground or even a fairly good sized parcel that has water and electric on site. Some place in a central location of the United States where the summers are not too harsh nor are the winters. A place where it is secluded enough from neighbors that there would be no worries about complaints of a different lifestyle and in a location that the local gov't wouldn't take issue (that in itself would prove to be a tough hurtle to overcome).

On this parcel of land there would be sites with at minimum water and electric hookup. The parcel would be divided into two sections. One section would be for conversions in process and the other section would be for completed skoolies. The section for in process skoolies would be leased on a month by month basis for as long as it takes to complete your skoolie and the section for completed skoolies could be on a seasonal/permanent basis.

The "skoolie campground" could be ran by a non-profit organization where the dues are enough to keep the facility going and possibly add additional amenities as time goes on. The organization could have a technical staff that found and purchased qualified school buses that would be prime candidates for conversion. In addition the technical staff could find campers ready for the scrap yard that has usable parts in the camper such as appliances, counters, bunks etc.

Individuals could come to the "skoolie campground" find their new skoolie and convert their bus in the in process section. Individuals that wish to live in their skoolie full time could lease a seasonal/permanent site. On site would be amenities such as wireless internet, community garden etc. Those that wished to travel in their converted skoolies after the conversion was complete could just pack up and go and those that wished to become part of this skoolie community could do so.

There are some out there that could do their conversions completely on their own and others that may need some help in some areas, such as fabrication or electrical. People with all types of experiences may be there to lend a hand or just offer support in the way of ideas on how to do a part of the project.

The ideal location would offer some sort of employment opportunities near by for those that are not retired or independently wealthy of course as this would not be a socialist community. Everyone would be on their own to fund their stay and conversion but could receive moral and technical support from those in the community that wish to give it.

Anyway, that is my dream in a nutshell. I am sure it is probably just a pie in the sky idea but I kind of think it would be neat to be involved in such a community.

What do you think?

Sounds like you should start up a church or cult........
Tax free, laws have no district controls on churches,
shit just take a look at Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas.
You might be on to something here.
You really don't need a religion just the name for one and some land to build it on.
..... a new religion/ a new life.... God, buses and skoolies.....

just thinking out loud again........

LOL! That is just scary! NO CULTS, lol. Maybe we should call it the "Church of the Skoolies" The sustainable way of life... :)
